Symantec Backup Exec 11.x for Windows Administration I & II

Overview:

This course covers how to install and configure Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers, create backup policies, run backup jobs, and create and run restore jobs. Students will also learn tape configuration and media rotation methods, as well as how to troubleshoot Backup Exec.

Description:

This course also covers advanced functions of Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers, such as configuring advanced settings, managing the Backup Exec database, and using Remote Agents to protect Windows, Linux, and UNIX servers.

Advanced features and functions of Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers are also discussed, primarily focusing on add-on agents and options that enhance the functionality of Backup Exec. A high-level overview of the Backup Exec System Recovery product is also provided.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
• Describe the basic functions of Backup Exec.
• Configure different types of devices for use with Backup Exec.
• Manage media used by Backup Exec.

• Apply backup, media rotation, and tape flow models to a data protection environment.

• Back up various types of servers and workstations using remote agents.
• Protect open files and manage shortened backup windows using the Advanced Open File Option.
• Use database agents to back up different types of databases running on remote systems.
• Perform synthetic backups and off-host backups using the Advanced Disk-Based Backup Option.
• Automate file protection for users’ desktop and laptop computers using the Desktop and Laptop Option.
• Use the Central Admin Server Option to manage multiple media servers.
• Use Continuous Protection Server.
• Describe how to recover a complete system using Backup Exec System Recovery.

This course is for system administrators, system engineers, technical support personnel, consultants, network
administrators, backup administrators, backup operators, and others who will be responsible for installing, configuring, and administering Backup Exec 10d for Windows Servers.


Prerequisites
You should have working knowledge of administration and configuration of the Windows 2000 and Windows 2003
platforms, and you should have experience configuring server software and hardware. Knowledge of domain security and experience with Active Directory are recommended. Knowledge of MS-SQL Server is beneficial, but not necessary.

Hands-On
