Overview:

The Symantec Backup Exec 12 for Windows Servers: Administration course suite is designed for the data protection professional tasked with backing up and restoring critical data and vaulting the media on which backup data is stored. This 5-day, instructor-led, hands-on class covers how to backup, restore, and vault data. Students will also learn how to configure storage devices, manage media, and troubleshoot Backup Exec. Students also learn to work with add-on agents and options which expand Backup Exec’s core functionality.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:
• Describe the basic functions of Backup Exec.
• Manage devices and media for use with Backup Exec.
• Run basic backup jobs.
• Establish backup policies and templates.
• Restore backed-up data.
• Evaluate Backup Exec reports.
• Use proprietary utilities to troubleshoot problems.
• Optimize Backup Exec performance.
• Integrate the Symantec Protection Network and Symantec EndPoint Protection with Backup Exec.
• Configure advanced Backup Exec functions.
• Manage, maintain, troubleshoot, and protect the Backup Exec database.
• Install and use the following add-on packages:
o Advanced Open File Option
o Advanced Disk-Based Backup Option
o Central Admin Server Option
o Desktop and Laptop Agent
o Continuous Protection Server
• Use Backup Exec to protect databases.

Who Should Attend
This course is for system administrators, system engineers, technical support personnel, consultants, network administrators, backup administrators, backup operators, and others who are responsible for installing, configuring, and administering Backup Exec 12.

Prerequisites
You should have working knowledge of administration and configuration of the Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003 platforms, and you should have experience configuring server software and hardware.
Knowledge of domain security and experience with Active Directory, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Vista are recommended. Knowledge of MS-SQL Server is beneficial, but not necessary.

Hands-On
This course includes practical exercises that enable you to test your new skills and begin to transfer them into your working environment. Additionally, assessment items at the end of each lesson test your knowledge and comprehension of the information provided.
