Description:
Examine all aspects of creating monitoring solutions with the IBM Tivoli Universal Agent (UA) to integrate data from custom resources into IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) Version 6.1. Starting with general understanding and positioning of UA, learn the specifics of installing the UA on Windows and Linux before going into designing custom UA applications utilizing different data providers. Also, explore advanced topics, how to manage UA applications in IBM Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP), and troubleshooting procedures.
Audience:
This is an intermediate course for system administrators and deployment specialists who monitor custom resources in a distributed environment.
Objectives:
- Describe the purpose, components, and architecture of the UA and identify all data providers
- Plan a UA implementation and list differences to implementing other ITM 6.1 agents
- Perform all steps to create and activate UA applications
- Use different data providers to create monitoring solutions for a variety of custom resources
- Manage UA within TEP and utilize visualization, monitoring, and automation capabilities
- Use the UA to monitor Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) resources, and send SNMP alerts
- Determine the cause of different UA problems
Prerequisites:
You should complete:
- IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.1 for Operators (TV280)
- IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.1 for Administrators (TV301)
- IBM Tivoli Monitoring 6.1 for Implementers (TV350)
You should have the following:
- Familiarity with the ITM 6.1 architecture
- Ability to install ITM 6.1 agents and other infrastructure components on Windows and Linux
- Ability to use and navigate the TEP
- Working knowledge of managing situation events effectively using ITM
- Skills in configuring TEP to visualize data in workspaces and views
