Learn how IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC) integrates with other IBM Tivoli products to monitor networks and business infrastructure. Focus on understanding, using, and configuring best practices rules that are built into the default rule base. IBM TEC ships with rules to process events that are sent by IBM Tivoli NetView (the NetView rule set) and IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) (the e-business rule set). Learn to use and configure those rules to solve common business monitoring problems. Using default rules, learn common IBM TEC tasks, such as IBM TEC database maintenance and event escalation. In addition, learn to analyze historical data and create reports by integrating with IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse (TDW) with IBM TEC. Gain hands-on experience during student lab exercises.

Audience:

This is an intermediate course for operators and system administrators who monitor enterprise environment with IBM TEC integrated with any of the following products: IBM Tivoli NetView, ITM, and IBM TDW. Architects and deployment specialists also find this course helpful in understanding the integrated capabilities of those products.

Objectives:

• Configure correlation between IBM TEC and the e-business monitoring products: ITM for Websphere MQ events or DB2 databases
• Configure correlation between IBM Tivoli NetView events and ITM events
• Configure IBM TEC rules to automate IBM TEC database cleanup
• Manipulate IBM TEC rules to enable or disable rulesets
• Configure IBM TEC to provide data to the IBM TDW
• Use the default rule base events, particularly the IBM Tivoli NetView and e-business rule sets
• Generate reports using IBM TDW
• Configure IBM TEC rules to provide event escalation, event filtering, and endpoint heartbeat monitoring
• Demonstrate methods of troubleshooting event flow through rule sets

Prerequisites:

You should complete:

• Tivoli Enterprise Console 3.9 (TM090)
• or have equivalent experience

You should also be familiar with the basic function and operation of ITM and IBM Tivoli NetView.
