Description:

Get the basic knowledge and skills you need to configure, customize, and administer the IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC). Review the IBM Tivoli Enterprise Console architecture and operations, learn how to integrate monitor event inputs, get an overview of writing rules to control event flow, and get an introduction to administration and troubleshooting. Practice these skills in a laboratory environment during multiple opportunities. Reinforce the lessons presented in this course during a series of hands-on activities.

Audience:

This is an intermediate level course for IBM Tivoli administrators who monitor enterprise-wide events generated by IBM or third-party monitors using the IBM TEC 3.9.

Objectives:

• Explain the capabilities, benefits, and architecture of TEC
• Install TEC 3.9
• Describe TEC event adapters
• Configure event consoles for viewing events
• Create event groupings and set administrative access to events
• Customize the Web and Java consoles for TEC events
• Define new events using Basic Recorder of Objects in C (BAROC)
• Create new rules using the Graphical Rule Builder
• Discuss troubleshooting techniques for TEC 3.9

Prerequisites:

You should complete:

• IBM Tivoli Infrastructure 4.1 (TM160)
• or have working knowledge or equivalent training on IBM Tivoli Framework 3.7.1 or later

You should also have the following skills:

• Working knowledge of user administration for Windows and UNIX operating systems
• Basic knowledge of WebSphere 5.0 administration and operation
• Basic knowledge of Windows or UNIX shell scripts
