Description:

This course prepares you to configure and manage the gateway framework and vendor gateways for your wireless network management systems including Netcool Performance Manager for Wireless, Netcool Service Quality Manager, Network Performance Reporting and Metrica Performance Manager. Through a combination of presentations, demonstrations, and guided, hands-on practical sessions, work with a Gateway Framework to configure key components. You will also analyze a raw data set, learn the structure of a file, and see how gateway parser rules are used to convert files to the required file format output for loading into the applicable product system.

Audience:

This intermediate-level course is for system administrators, business partners, and deployment professionals responsible for configuring and maintaining the gateway framework and gateways and for integrating with the selected performance management or service assurance system. The current gateway framework and vendor gateways are used in IBM Tivoli Netcool Service Quality Manager, IBM Tivoli Netcool Performance Manager for Wireless, Network Performance Reporting, and Metrica Performance Manager.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe what a gateway is and its usefulness with network performance management applications
  • Describe the most important components and features of the Gateway Framework
  • Configure the Gateway Framework and vendor gateways
  • Customize Gateways using the most important Pre- and Post-Parser rules
  • Recognize some common techniques to enhance the gateway
  • Identify and describe the structure of raw data files from common equipment
  • Test the conversion of raw data files into LIF or CSV files using the most common parser rules

  • Strong knowledge of UNIX shells
  • Strong knowledge of scripting using Perl
  • Strong knowledge of regular expressions used for pattern matching
  • Essential knowledge of OSS system integration and network boundaries
