IBM - Rational Technical Support offers the Technical Support Advancement Program (TSAP). The goal of the program is to better prepare participants for troubleshooting IBM - Rational ClearCase products in their environment.

TSAP will provide the student with knowledge of CM build and release best practices, Building with clearmake and omake, clearmake troubleshooting and introduction to Rational Build Forge.

Audience:

This intermediate course is for Users of ClearCase, system administrators who support ClearCase, with at least 1 year of experience with the product.

You should complete the following IBM Rational courses or have equivalent knowledge or experience:

  • ClearCase fundamentals
  • ClearCase Metadata course
  • ClearCase Administration course or
  • 1 year experience with the product

Topics:

Part 2: Building with Clearmake and Omake

This is a comprehensive review of clearmake and its relationship to building with clearmake. This gives the customer an overview of what the benefits of using clearmake is and how it's used to accelerate and distribute builds. It will also go over how to create a makefile and create derived objects that can be used for reuse and auditing.

  • Parallel/ Distributed build process
  • Integrating clearmake auditing with the Java Build tool Ant

Part 3: Clearmake Troubleshooting

To aid in the event of a build failure or a makefile error customer need to be able to recognize what the problem is. In this class we will discover how to solve some clearmake problems and discuss some common clearmake pitfalls and misconceptions that customers have problems with.

  • Run clearmake builds and create derived objects
  • Show header file dependencies and how they are uniquely handled by clearmake
  • Understand the clearmake flowchart on how it deciphers what to build etc.

Part 4: Introduction to BuildForge

To introduce new users and administrators to BuildForge and it's interaction with ClearCase and builds.

  • Install/Configure BuildForge
  • Show basic concepts and features with a hands-on approach
  • Troubleshooting
