Description:

Get an introduction to Unified Modeling Language (UML) visualization in WebSphere Studio Application Developer and UML-based class modeling. Learn four fundamental processes:

  • the mapping of simple Java classes and Enterprise Java Bean classes into UML notation
  • analysis of the implementation of a Java application using class diagrams in the UML visual editor
  • adding and editing classes using the UML visual editor
  • refactoring Java code from a UML diagram using the UML visual editor

IACET Continuing Education Units: 0.0

Audience:

This is an intermediate course for application developers who wish to use the UML visual editor to extract a diagram of an application's classes and work with the diagram to build or enhance an application. It is for individuals who already understand Java coding principles and practices well, but have limited experience using the UML.

Objectives:

  • Translate simple Java classes to UML notation and UML to Java
  • Translate enterprise beans to UML notation and UML to enterprise beans
  • Analyze the implementation of a Java application using class diagrams in the UML visual editor
  • Add and edit classes using the UML visual editor
  • Refactor Java code from a UML diagram using the UML visual editor

Prerequisites:

You should complete one of the following courses:

  • EJB Development using WebSphere Studio Application Developer V5.x (WF351) or
  • EJB Development using WebSphere Studio V5 (self-paced virtual class) (WF357)

You should already understand object technology, Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) technology, HTML, and Java programming. You should also understand how to use WebSphere Studio Application Developer.

This necessary prerequisite knowledge of EJB technology may also be found in Chapter 2 (pages 33-71) of EJB 2.0 Development with WebSphere Studio Application Developer. 2003 (SG24-6819-00), available at:
