Description:

In this expert level course, learn to monitor and troubleshoot network interfaces, TCP/IP protocol components, and selected network services in an AIX 5L environment. Learn to use the TCP/IP utilities and debugging tools included with AIX to resolve network related problems.

This is a highly technical course. The lecture material is very detailed and the exercises are extensive. The Student Notebook contains "Bonus Material" to help experienced individuals resolve TCP/IP and selected network services problems in AIX 5L in the areas of Domain Name Service (DNS) and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The Bonus Material is included in the Student Notebook, and will only covered in class if time permits.

Audience:

This is an expert course for AIX technical support individuals, developers, and system administrators who investigate and resolve network related problems.

Objectives:

  • Resolve TCP/IP and selected network service problems in AIX 5L, including problems in the following areas: addressing, routing, Multipath routing, Virtual IP address (VIPA), Dead gateway detection (DGD), Path MTU discovery (PMTU), Etherchannel/802.3ad link aggregation, Virtual LAN (802.1Q), Virtual Ethernet adapter (for POWER5-based systems), Shared Ethernet adapter (for POWER5-based systems), TCP session establishment and termination
  • Use appropriate problem determination strategies
  • Use AIX 5L utilities and debugging tools, including: ifconfig, netstat, iptrace, tcpdump, arp, no, route, ping, and traceroute
