Learn about the new features that are currently available with the System p POWER6 systems, the version 7 Hardware Management Console, and AIX 6 Beta/AIX 6.1.

Audience:

This advanced course is intended for anyone responsible for purchasing, managing, and planning of an IBM System p POWER6 server running the AIX 5L V5.3 TL6 or greater operating system, and with an Hardware Management Console (HMC) at version 7.

Objectives:

On completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe key POWER6 hardware characteristics associated with the CPU and the I/O subsystems
  • Identify new features currently available and planned for AIX6
  • Discuss continuous availability options such as storage keys, concurrent AIX Kernel update, and FFDC
  • Discuss and configure the new approaches to virtualization which will be available such as Workload Partitions and Live Application Mobility

Prerequisites:

You must have basic AIX and LPAR system administration experience.  

The AIX prerequisite may be met by attending one of the following classes:

  • AIX System Administration I: Implementation (AU140) or (Q1314)
  • AIX System Administration II: Problem Determination (AU160) or (Q1316)
  • AIX 5L Implementation Differences  (Q1237)
  • AIX 5L Jumpstart for UNIX Professionals (AW180)
  • AIX 5L for UNIX Professionals (Q1845)

or equivalent AIX skills.

The LPAR prerequisite may be met by attending:.

  • System p LPAR and Virtualization I: Planning and Configuration (AU730) or (Q1373)
  • or equivalent LPAR skills
