The Department of Defense Directive 8570 was put into place to safeguard and protect vital information and information systems and to ensure a well-trained workforce.

This DoD enterprise-wide mandate provides guidance and procedures for the training and certification, and management of the DoD workforce conducting Information Assurance functions in assigned duty positions. This mandate requires that this training and certification is completed by the end of 2010.
